Food columnist's title =

"Pulling off the remake of a childhood favorite" (Washington Post 4/7/2021).

I'm thinking,

"Great! Cookies?

Moon pies?

ooooo- Homemade ice cream?!"

So I read the subtitle:

"How to replicate Mom's stuffed and steamed artichokes."....

HUH???

Any child YOU know loves these things?

SO WHAT ??

Another sample (since writer obviously has fond memories of them),

"To each his own".

God created us with Free Will to enjoy His MANY varieties of His World.

BUT some are better for our good.

And others-- not allowed within God's limits... whether food or actions we do.

What does LORD God say ??

Proverbs 14: 12 There is a way that seems right to a man,But its end is the way of death...

:14 The backslider in heart will be filled with his own ways,

But a good man will be satisfied from above

Prayer:
LORD God who is named YHWH (You said in Isaiah 42:8 Hebrew),

Thank You SO much for all the VARIETY You give.... even 50 varieties of apples for people who like sweet or sour, crunchy or soft, and SO many different tastes!

BUT...... Help me to NOT insist on getting any "apples" that YOU have said

are not good for us.....

Help me to Want what You want, within this

Wondrous Gift of FREE WILL that You have given to each of us.

PARABLE:

MOTHER'S DAY mini-PARABLE re John 14:15 etc: Let's say you love your Mom DEARLY. You want so much for her to be happy...

but she gently told you in March that she really doesn't care so much anymore about candy or florist cut flowers. Wanting to give her joy, you tell her you'll do anything she wants.

She says "Please plant a small Zinnia flower garden for me in the back yard where I sit thru the summer." May comes, and for Mother's Day -----

......... INSTEAD, you decide to plant a huge bed of lovely roses. It IS GORGEOUS.

You tell Mom, "You'll like these much more! You won't have to ever weed them, & they'll come back each year." Your Mom, of course, thanks you very much with a smile. Even though she really wanted a summer garden.

SO WHAT ??

......... God has told us quite clearly what He wants. I don't need to spell it out... His Holy Spirit gives us wisdom if we ask as we read what God Himself said (James 1:5 and John 14:26 which people often forget- JESUS says the HS will help us remember all Jesus taught. And since Jesus is God never changing, that includes His Word in what we call the Old Testament).

......... NO - NO!... NOTHING we do can "EARN" heaven!! But..... Our Father says what He wants in Exodus 20 and more, in His Simple commandments.

We who dearly love Him WANT to give Him pleasure. So should we be assuming that He's just as pleased by substitute gifts?

......... Sometimes I wonder if God is like Mom in this way...

very pleased by our deep love.

YET... rather disappointed that we won't take time & energy to learn and do exactly what He's said He really wanted.

What does LORD God say ??
John 15, Jesus who is God dwelling on Earth for a time (see Zechariah 2:10 and Gospel of John Chapter 1) clearly SAID what He Likes and WANTS, more than OUR ideas.

9 “As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you; abide in My love. 10 If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love.

11 “These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full. 12 This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. 13 Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends. 14 You are My friends if you do whatever I command you.

Prayer:
LORD God who is named YHWH (You said in Isaiah 42:8 Hebrew),

Help me to know what YOU want.... to do what YOU want.... to

stop thinking I am so wise that I can figure out a "better" gift than what I know You've

said You really like.....

PARABLE:

As a newlywed, I wanted my jello salad for the church dinner to be Perfect. Mom's great recipe said "1/2 cup pineapple juice". Jello box said "Don't use fresh juice"-- but didn't say why.

I was only 1 BITTY teaspoon short. So I used 1 BITTY tsp of fresh juice. And ended up with: Lime SOUP. NOW I know the Science of Why. But my jello was ruined by the Law of Science even though I didn't believe the Instructions meant to help me.,,,,

SO WHAT ??
We don't understand the "WHY" but still are often hurt when we ignore Laws. Like parents, God sometimes says "BECAUSE I SAID SO." We'd each be happier if we Trusted His LOVE giving laws that HELP us: Romans 7:12, "But still, the law itself is holy, and its commands are holy & right & GOOD."

What does LORD God say ??

Proverbs 3: 5, 6 and also 7 (which often is not quoted)

5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart,

And lean not on your own understanding;

6 In all your ways acknowledge Him,

And He shall direct your paths.

7 Do not be wise in your own eyes;

Fear the LORD and depart from evil.

Prayer:
LORD, help me to TRUST You, to trust Your LOVE for all people -- 2nd Peter 3: 9 --

and to TRUST that Your Wisdom is FAR above mine... that You knew what's best

when You inspired scripture writers to list Your Laws that are so Good..

PARABLE:

Called insurance agent yest to ensure I've rightly done "Due Diligence" keeping watch over my woodland trees that are tall enough to hit neighbor's garage. (Yes :) ...

DID YOU KNOW? U.S. Building Code Laws REQUIRE a "fence" (barrier, parapet) along flat roof area of beach houses etc where we can sit to enjoy the view--

And GOD requires them TOO!

In Deuteronomy 22:8, God even adds the reason, "that you may not bring guilt of bloodshed on your household if anyone falls from it."...

LACK of due diligence causing Death was.... the Death Penalty.

It's so SAD that people have been mis-taught that Jesus *ended* God's
GOOD Laws like this, rather than the TRUTH that instead, He ended the DEATH PENALTY for them

(IF we're truly seeking to follow Him).

SO WHAT ??
Due Diligence: Laws are good --

both in the U.S. CODE of LAWS,

and In God's.

God says these are one way to show LOVE to people.

Matthew 24:11-12, Jesus prophesied 2,000 years ago that Jeremiah 16:19 would become "Normal"-- people mis-teaching that God's GOOD Laws are Bad.

What does LORD God say ??

People even mis-quote Paul who CLEARLY wrote God's inspired words in Romans 7:7-12

"MAY IT NOT BE SO!!" (literal words)

when People call God's GOOD Laws "Bad"...

even daring to use Jesus's name while they claim JESUS said it,

though in John 15, Jesus said "I you LOVE Me, OBEY Me." And Jesus Is

God Who wrote these good laws for Our Good as well as to Honor Hi.

Prayer:
LORD God who is named YHWH (You said in Isaiah 42:8 Hebrew),

LORD it is SO amazing that You, the LORD of All, not only invite but yearn for us Each to "plug in" to restore our souls with You...

PARABLE:
Weather prediction: Rains coming, early afternoon.

SO much to do outdoors, but sitting here, weary,

when I need to RUSH to use what time I have left...

Sure I have a "good excuse": Dr yesterday agreed she needs to up my thyroid meds more.

YET: Having reasons still won't Accomplish In Time unless I Pray & GO (& pray AS I go!)

SO WHAT ??
Colossians 4 reminds us to REDEEM THE TIME-- and it's about serving God, helping others Hear His Truth & See His Love thru our actions...

I, we, need to Pray & GO despite weariness & discouragement at times. Ephesians 3:20 Joy: God empowers us who humbly ask!

What does LORD God say ??
Colossians 4:

2 Continue earnestly in prayer, being vigilant in it with thanksgiving; 3 meanwhile praying also for us, that God would open to us a door for the word, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which I am also in chains, 4 that I may make it manifest, as I ought to speak.

5 Walk in wisdom toward those who are outside, redeeming the time. 6 Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one.

Prayer:
LORD God who is named YHWH (You said in Isaiah 42:8 Hebrew),

Help us to stop wasting time. Help us to remember that SATAN yearns for us to

WASTE our lives, to WASTE our opportunities to serve You, help others,

and tell others the Truth about You within Your scriptures.

PARABLE:
PARABLE: When I was 12, I began having severe pain at times but Mom told me only about aspirin. It seldom helped. Then we moved from ocean toward mountains, & each year I'd angrily fret, "WHY do I get a cold EVERY Easter?" Only in college did friends tell me that Tylenol (which worked GREAT) had been in stores for YEARS.

Only in my 20s did anyone suggest I had Hayfever, but meds help a LOT..........

SO WHAT ??
We who know Jesus DOES truly help our Heart Pain & comforts us when we call to Him-- WHO have we told who is Now so Sad, growing in Hopelessness as these weary times go On and ON?...

Romans 10:14...

And how can they hear about him unless someone tells them?" .........

ahhh, the physical pain I endured because no one TOLD me of cures is NOTHING in comparison to the Heartaches in so many people all around..

What does LORD God say ??
Romans 10 encourages us to TELL OTHERS of Him for THEIR comfort, Peace, Joy...

Isn't it worth our slight DISCOMFORT in SPEAKING to

tell people how to END their Sorrows, Fears and Pain?

Romans 10: 12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him. 13 For “whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved.”

14 How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed?

And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard?

And how shall they hear without a preacher?

15 And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written:

“How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace,

Who bring glad tidings of good things!”[fn]

Prayer:
LORD God who is named YHWH (You said in Isaiah 42:8 Hebrew),

HELP US TO STOP BEING SO SELFISH

that we think more about OUR comfort in speaking about You & Your scriptures

than we do about how these will HELP OTHERS.... Oh, LORD, we pray.....

PARABLE:

Took my kids' little red Radio Flyer wagon to Plant sale yest-- Many people admired it.

Old toys like Hot Wheel cars from 80s have SAILED in price on eBay. Same for older music too, any genre, whether or not technically "good".

SO WHAT ??

The world is so crazy & upsetting that many of us yearn for any thing that reminds us of when Life was more enjoyable.... Bring us back to our feelings back when our younger selves did not know All that would happen. Trusting that God DOES is our only HOPE.

What does LORD God say ??
Romans 15:13

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Jeremiah 29:11

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

Prayer:
LORD God who is named YHWH (You said in Isaiah 42:8 Hebrew),

LORD it is SO amazing that You, YEARN to comfort us, to draw us to you as a mother hen draws

her chicks-- so said Jesus at the end of Matthew 23.

THANK YOU. Help us to truly seek YOU for comfort.... and not Toys of Life that Rust and age
