Reminder to self:
STOP TRYING TO PUSH THRU DOORS
God has KEPT CLOSED to me.
He's "on my side" AND knows BETTER than me:
The pain of loss that I feel at failing to open a door
is nothing compared to the PEACE
of just trusting God's got a great plan for me
& He can work out "this"-- whatever "this" is For ANY of us....

THE LADY OR THE TIGER is an 1882 short story by Frank R. Stockton
that is even in many high school English texts.
A poor guy falls in love with princess.
Angry King drags him to 2 doors where he MUST open one.
One has a lovely Lady,
the other a starving Tiger.
BUT the Princess found out which & sneaks an answer to him!
THE Q: Does she love him enough to save his life--
OR to "give" him another woman?....
THANKING GOD,
HE loves us enough to keep BAD doors closed!...

What does LORD God say ??
Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding;

In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.

7a Do not be wise in your own eyes... (New KJV)

New Living Translation: Trust in the LORD with all your heart;
do not depend on your own understanding.

SO WHAT ??
How FOOLISH we are when we do not trust God...
or when we even honestly think we do but are focused on getting
guidance from other people... AND CHOOSING THE GUIDANCE WE LIKED.

Prayer:
LORD I truly DO want wisdom ONLY from You.
Help me to learn that wisdom includes..... WAITING quite often
for YOU to open the right doors. THANK YOU for closing bad doors to me!

PARABLE:
I struggle to get some "odd timings" in original songs.
Most fun (though hard) song was based on Potomac River
splashing against huge rocks one windy day.
From left side, the waves hit the rocks in 5/4 time.
From 'top' side by deep water, waves hit rocks in 4/4 time.
Writing God's idea "Combinatoric Waves Peace" was hard, singing in 4/4 against drumbeat in 5/4

BUT GOD...
*Always* we can trust:
"BUT GOD" helps us when things COMBINE AGAINST us
(math term)
& gives us HIS power beyond our skills- IF we honor Him...

Ephesians 3:20-21... for His Own Glory.

What does LORD God say ??

"Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” -- JESUS, John 14:27 KJV

“These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace.

In the world you WILL have tribulation;

but be of good cheer,

I have overcome the world! ” - - JESUS, John 16:33

SO WHAT ??

COMBINATORIC: Math term. Taking 2 (or more) sets of something and comparing them to look for elements in common.

Combinatoric related to God:

God can take ANYTHING...

including crashing waves of problems and sorrows in your life,

and unite it with a single factor that draws the waves of that set of problems into

a unified piece: JESUS.

Whatever “off” time we exist in, when we invite Jesus to be part of our lives,

the combination is Peace With God.

John 16:33, PEACE amid Tribulations.

Prayer:
LORD it is SO easy to let myself get scared.
Whenever I feel like troubles are combining against me.... Help me remember:
YOU care, YOU will help, because YOU love me and YOU promised. Thank you!

PARABLE:
I bought a big bag of 'Super Nutritious Huge Name'
brand catfood pellets a month ago...
and the cats *Loved* it...
At first.
Now I put the healthy food to the back of the bowl
hoping they'll get hungry enough to eat it when the
Blah Brand "cat junk food" I put in front is .

This AM the 2 were hollerin' "I'm hungry!" meows--
BUT dish had plenty of 'Super Nutritious Huge Name' food.

Jesus's parable of the Sower:
Some people "hear the Word, immediately receive it with GLAD-ness", but won't let it take root:
Thy "endure only for a time." (Mark 4) ...

What does LORD God say ??
John 16, Jesus describing Himself as the BREAD that saves our Life:

30 Therefore they said to Him, “What sign will You perform then, that we may see it and believe You? What work will You do? 31 Our fathers ate the manna in the desert; as it is written, ‘He gave them bread from heaven to eat.’ ”32 Then Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, Moses did not give you the bread from heaven, but My Father gives you the true bread from heaven. 33 For the bread of God is He who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.”34 Then they said to Him, “Lord, give us this bread always.”

He who comes to Me shall never hunger,

and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.

SO WHAT ??
Be honest: How often do you read books in the "Old Testament"... BESIDES Psalms
and Proverbs? .... God gave us 2/3rds of HIS words of warning & ENCOURAGEMENT,
of EXAMPLES of His faithfulness in His Book before the stories of Jesus are told...
Yet most of us read only the familiar and "happy" scriptures we like....
Never even sampling God's glorious buffet of Words throughout His Bible...
Even like Leviticus 19, full of words about how LOVING God is in the Laws He gave!

Prayer:
LORD, help us not be foolish as cats rejecting the Super Nutrition you,
the Bread of Life provided.
Lest "when tribulation or persecution arises", immediately we stumble. (Mark 4: 17).

PARABLE:
Few know of Blaise Pascal's Wager;
he's famous mathematician ~1650s. Summary (see chart):

If you believe in God but are Wrong, then big deal--   nothing happens;
& if you're right, you get "Heaven Forever".

If you DON'T believe in God, and are right, big deal.   BUT if you're Wrong >>>    you get "Hell Forever"...

So, Pascal reasoned, Gambling Sense =

BELIEVE IN GOD:    WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO LOSE?

What does LORD God say ??
Sadly Pascal's Wager is proven Wrong by a single verse of Truth with logic; James 2:19,

Even demons believe in God-- and Tremble.
But God does not PROVES Himself to us...
despite all the evidences .....
to leave us FREEDOM to reject Truth ... if that is Our Choice.

SO WHAT ??

End of Romans 1,
by instinct EVERY person knows there IS a God;
but we can choose to reject every evidence of Him,
gambling that, hey, maybe we're "in Luck & wrong"
whenever we start thinking: all of Nature shows, God exists.

Prayer:
LORD it is SO amazing that You, the LORD of All, not only invite but BEG us
to CHOOSE LIFE by choosing YOU, as You've invited even as far back as in
the time of Moses. (Deuteronomy 30: 19-20)....
Help me to NOT be stubborn, to NOT be blind to ALL the many Evidences of You
that I see both in nature and in Your little miracles that I sometimes call Luck...
or just coincidence. I'm sorry. And I thank You for all Your blessings. I CHOOSE YOU.

PARABLE:

Ever wonder why even the dumb game shows are so popular?
I think it's because we (generally)
like to see "happy people".
Even when we're not.
Which sort conflicts with the
old saying that
"misery loves company".
You'd think that instead it would be "misery loves being distracted by seeing someone happy".

We each have "tricks" to "lift ourselves up".
Because it's easier to stop being sad when we're not just "watching happy" but focusing on helping someone else...
Facebook or other media messages, phone calls, emails,
and REALLY "old school" >>
sending a card or even writing a short letter.

What does LORD God say ??
God offers this idea in 1st Thessalonians 5:11 >>
"So encourage each other and build each other up..."

Matthew 25: 44-45 warning from Jesus... quite clear.... to NOT be self-focused
as our way to "feel happy" in life:
44 “Then they also will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to You?’
45 Then He will answer them, saying, ‘Assuredly, I say to you,
inasmuch as you did not do it to one of the least of these,
you did not do it to Me.’

Prayer:
LORD please help me to remember to focus on You before me... but to also
notice other people and serve You by serving them.... out of love for You,
with love for the people You love... the World that Jesus came to help... John 3:16.
